The South Burlington School District has completed the relocation of several central office departments to our new administrative offices at 462 Shelburne Road.
While the move improves the efficiency of our administrative operations, its primary purpose is to create new opportunities for students in our SouthPoint Program while making better use of district resources.
The following departments are now located at 462 Shelburne Road:
Business Office
Superintendent's Office
Office of Learning
Office of Student Support Services
The following departments remain at 577 Dorset Street:
Human Resources
Technology Department
Office of Equity, Belonging, and Family Engagement
The Green Mountain Room at Dorset Street will continue to serve as the location for School Board meetings.
Over the summer, renovations are underway on the second floor of the Dorset Street building in preparation for the relocation of the SouthPoint Program, which serves students with emotional disabilities. We anticipate welcoming SouthPoint students into their new space in September.
Relocating SouthPoint to Dorset Street will provide several important benefits for students:
Access to South Burlington High School facilities, programs, and resources.
Expansion of the program to serve both middle school and high school students, allowing more students to receive specialized support without leaving the district.
A learning environment that is better integrated into the district and designed to support students' academic, social, and emotional growth.
The move also represents good stewardship of taxpayer resources. The district currently spends nearly $300,000 each year to lease SouthPoint's current facility near the airport. Consolidating central office functions at 462 Shelburne Road, where annual lease costs are approximately $72,000, allows us to eliminate that lease while making better use of our existing district facilities.
Later this summer, we also plan to open a new Welcome Center at 577 Dorset Street. The Welcome Center will provide one central location where families can enroll new students regardless of grade level or school. We look forward to sharing more information once it is ready to open.
Together, these changes create better opportunities for students, improve services for families, and reduce long-term operating costs through more efficient use of district resources.
