"A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself...to see the higher part of yourself when sometimes it becomes hidden to your own view." ~ Oprah Winfrey

SB Mentoring is our school-based mentoring program at Chamberlin, Orchard, Rick Marcotte Central, F.H. Tuttle Middle, and South Burlington High Schools in the South Burlington School District that matches caring, respectful adults in the community one-on-one with wonderful young people in grades K through 12 to help young people find their "sparks": their passions and interests. We value to research of the Search Institute on developmental assets and use that information as the foundation of the program: http://www.search-institute.org/research/developmental-assets.

At its height, SB Mentoring grew to a vibrant community of 120 people: 60 young leaders and 60 mentors. Now in its 12th year, we are striving to regrow our program to similar stature following the effects of the pandemic. What remains fundamentally unchanged is the importance of the voices of our young leaders—the students in our program—that continue to play a vital role in steering the direction of SB Mentoring and the activities, community service projects, and field trips that we do.

SB Mentoring believes that, in the words of one of our mentors, mentors "learn just as much –if not more—from our young leaders as they learn from us."
