Beginning in 1998, a group of our teachers became interested in a system of classroom management being promoted by the Northeast Family Institute known as Responsive Classroom. The number of teachers who have attended the week-long training institute has grown over the years with many of us attending for two years. We love this approach!
The basic tenants of Responsive Classroom include building a caring classroom by holding morning classroom meetings, promoting positive discipline strategies, and promoting and celebrating students' ownership of their learning. Students practice social skills through activities and are set up for a productive day ahead.
